In November 2021, Wetherby School and Wetherby Preparatory School were inspected by ISI in a Focused Compliance and EQI Inspection. ISI inspections judge schools to be either ‘unsatisfactory’, ‘sound’, ‘good’ or ‘excellent’. They focus on pupils’ academic and other achievements, and their personal development.

We are delighted to say that inspectors have awarded both schools the top grade of ‘excellent’ in all areas.

Of Wetherby School, the inspectors said:

The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent.

  • Pupils of all abilities achieve extremely high standards across the curriculum by the time they leave the school.
  • Pupils of all ages are highly effective communicators who benefit from a wide range of opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills.
  • Pupils develop a vast knowledge due to the thematic links made across subjects in the integrated curriculum.
  • Pupils achieve excellent results in national competitions including for mathematics, literacy and general knowledge.
  • Pupils have extremely positive attitudes to learning and are able to work both collaboratively and independently.

The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent.

  • Pupils have excellent awareness of other cultures which enables them to develop strong inter-personal skills and grow into tolerant human beings.
  • Pupils thrive in an environment of praise and reward for effort, and are not afraid to make mistakes as part of their learning.
  • Pupils develop a strong sense of self, and are well prepared for the next stages of their education.

ISI inspectors also felt the school demonstrates the fulfilment of the school’s aim to dream big, do your best and be ready.

Wetherby Preparatory School’s inspection report was just as positive. Inspectors remarked that the school’s family atmosphere and its ethos of valuing what pupils have to say promote open communication across the school and provide many opportunities for pupils to develop their excellent speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

The ISI inspection report remarked
