Alpha Plus is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Josiah Silvester as Head of
Wetherby Senior School from September 2021.

Mr Silvester read Theology and Religious Studies at University of Bristol before going to University of Birmingham to study for his Postgraduate Certificate of Education and, later in his career, completed an MA in Education Management at King’s College, London.

His first teaching post was at Ipswich School, Suffolk, before moving to City of London School in 2005 to teach Religious Studies. He was promoted within the year to Head of Department and Housemaster.

He joined the Senior Leadership Team in February 2014 as the Assistant Head: Teaching and Learning. He also took on the responsibility for the school’s outreach and partnerships, determining the strategy and delivery in these two very important areas. As part of the brief for Teaching and Learning, he developed the school’s policy for collaborative online learning practices and is very enthusiastic about the use of technology to enhance the learning experience for pupils.

In 2017 Mr Silvester moved to Bancrofts School in North East London, to take up the post of Deputy Head: Academic. In this role he has worked closely with the Head in all aspects of school life, including setting the academic strategy for the school, recruitment of staff, admissions, and he also line managed senior leaders (the Assistant Head Academic and Assistant Head Co-curricular) and middle leaders (the Heads of Department, Admissions department and the Exams officer).

Mr Silvester is a school governor of a local academy school. He is also a keen sportsman and enjoys cycling and fitness. He is a freeman of the Worshipful Company of Innholders.
