A launch party to mark the opening of Wetherby-Pembridge, New York took place on Monday 30th October.

The Head of school, Kate Bailey, and her staff hosted over 120 guests at the school including all of the founding families, several of the directors of Alpha Plus, the members of the school’s Advisory Board and several of our educational and business partners.

Sir John Ritblat, Chairman of Alpha Plus Group, addressed the guests and thanked the school’s Advisory Board Members for volunteering to serve the school over the coming years. He also spoke about the history of Alpha Plus. Kate Bailey then spoke about the school’s ethos and showed a film showcasing the pupils and illustrating life at the school during the first few weeks of term. Kate finished by introducing the Guest of Honour, His Excellency Ambassador Matthew Rycroft, who is the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations in New York. Ambassador Rycroft focused on the school’s values of resilience, respect and responsibility and stressed the importance of these values to all of us in the world today. He concluded his speech by cutting a ribbon which unveiled a plaque dedicated to the Wetherby-Pembridge School Founding Families. Sir John then gave a toast to the Founding Families.

It was a fitting occasion to mark the opening of our first Wetherby-Pembridge school abroad – a truly historic event.
